2018 World Cup: 23-year-old Iranian Messi dumps International football after country fans slammed him

23-year-old Iranian striker, Sarder Azmoun has surprisingly made known his retirement from international duties

The young football star and 'Irarian Messi' explained that he is retiring because of his mother following his country's exit from the 2018 World Cup after failing to find the back of the net.

However, before his World Cup goal barren journey, Azmoun scored 23 goals in 33 games for his country.

Iran was in group B along with Morocco, Portugal and Spain

The Iranian team were slammed by fans after the exit.

According to Azmoun, the abuse has made his mother ill.

“My mother had overcome a serious illness and I was happy,” said Azmoun, who plays his club football in Russia for Rubin Kazan.

“Unfortunately because of the unkindness of some people, and the insults that me and my team-mates in no way deserved, her illness has become severe.

“This has put me in a difficult position where I must pick one or the other – and as a result I pick my mother.”

The striker made his debut for Iran at the age of 19 becoming one of the youngest to do so.
