Senate House orders for the arrest of EFCC acting Chairman

On Tuesday the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions fired an arrest warrant against the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Mugu for failing to acknowledge the panel invitations. The Committee had many times invited the Mugu following the petition by former first lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan who has been under investigation by EFCC.

Some of Mrs Patience's bank account has been frozen by some banks in response to investigation carried out by the EFCC and contrary to that a Federal High Court commanded her accounts to be set free.

Mrs Jonathan sent a petition to the House, complaining about continuous harassment from the EFCC, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA and others. In relation to the petition, the committee issued that EFCC chairman should appear before the panel before Oct 4, while the committee voiced out that Mugu lacks respect for the House.

Rep Uzoma Nkem-Abonta (Abia-PDP), chairman of the panel explained that several letters have been sent to Mugu to report before the committee to depict reasons following the freezing of the former First Lady accounts.
