A farm Labourer apprehended after supposedly stealing yams




A labourer, Monday Atawei, who supposedly stole 65 tubers of yam from his master which cost about N30,000 was dragged to Okoitipupa Magistrates' court in Ondo state.

The labourer stands before the court with 2-count charge of stealing and Conspiracy.

Inspector Zedekiah Orogbemi, the prosecutor told the court that the offender and two other around 6:30am on Sept. arranged to steal the yams at farmland along Okitipupa-Ode-Aya Road. He said the labourer came in pretense to collect his salaries from his employer which he went on to steal those tubers of yams.

 Orogbemi said that the offences contravened Sections 312 and 390(9) of Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

Notwithstanding, the defendant was not found guilty of the charges.

Mr Banji Ayeomoni, the Magistrate, put the Monday on bail of N20,000 with a surety with the same amount and proof of one year tax clearance.

He suspended the case until Oct. 13.
